Hario V60 Filter 02 - New Glass Design

The Hario V60 is considered the most widely used pour-over filter in the coffee universe – and for good reason. With its user-friendly handling and the ability to create the perfect cup of coffee through numerous experiments, it is an indispensable tool for coffee lovers. We and many other roasteries offer tried-and-tested standard recipes for the V60, making brewing quite simple.

Product Features:

  • Material: The filter is made entirely of glass, while the stand is made of robust plastic. Additionally, we also offer the Hario V60 in plastic in size 02.
  • Ideal for Coffee Quantities from 15 to 30 Grams: The V60 is particularly well-suited for preparing coffee quantities between 15 and 30 grams of ground coffee.
  • Practical Use: The stand allows the filter to be placed directly on a cup or a suitable pot, such as the Glass Pot from Trendglas Jena. The thoughtful design ensures that air can always escape, which is not the case with many other filters, such as the Chemex, and can hinder the dripping of water.
  • Conical Shape: With a unique 60-degree conical shape, the V60 creates a deeper coffee bed. This allows for more even extraction with smaller quantities of ground coffee compared to cylindrical filters.
  • Integrated Drainage Ribs: These ribs on the rim of the filter promote the lateral drainage of brewing water and trap fines (smallest coffee particles), making filter clogging unlikely.
  • Dishwasher Safe: The pour-over filter is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
  • Heat Resistant: The plastic and glass used are heat resistant up to 120 degrees Celsius.
  • Versatile Filter Papers: A variety of different filter papers from various manufacturers offers plenty of room for experimentation.

Brewing Temperature and Recommendations

The glass V60 is thermally stable but absorbs a lot of heat from the brewing water. Therefore, we recommend a high brewing temperature of 96 to 99 degrees for preparing filter coffee. For darker coffees, lower temperatures should be used.

Standard Recipe with the Glass V60 for Filter Coffee

  1. Fold the paper filter along the crimped tab and place it in the V60.
  2. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and to preheat it.
  3. Grind 15-30 g of coffee (grind size like brown sugar) and calculate the water quantity at a ratio of 1:16. Example: 15 grams of coffee * 16 = 240 ml Benjamin typically brews 18 grams with 300 ml of water, i.e., 6 grams of coffee grounds per 100 ml of water.
  4. Add the coffee grounds to the filter and place it on a scale.
  5. Completely cover the coffee grounds with approx. 50-60 g of hot water (98 degrees) for 18 g.
  6. Swirl the filter to moisten the coffee grounds evenly.
  7. After approx. 30 - 40 seconds, pour circularly starting from the center of the grounds until about half of the total water quantity (e.g., 150 ml) has been poured.
  8. Once the water has mostly drained, pour the remaining water circularly. Then swirl once more to loosen the coffee grounds from the sides of the filter.
  9. After 2:10 to 2:50 minutes, the coffee should have finished dripping (for 18 grams of coffee grounds used).

We have published a detailed guide on preparing filter coffee here.
